The Vía Alterna del Su (VAS )r project is a highway initiative to provide access to Guatemala City from the south of the country, reducing travel time by avoiding traffic on the Villalobos slope, the Aguilar Batres and Hincapié causeway; As a response to the demand of users in the face of traffic congestion.
The stretch contemplates the total construction of 25 kilometers built with private capital in two phases, which the first part counts with 11 kilometers and it was recently open to the population.
The highway starts at kilometer 22 of the CA-09 South and ends at San Miguel Petapa. This highway will benefit thousands of road users leading to the Pacific and will find in (VAS) a better mobilization and a more fluid transit .
The Regional Ring is a project with an approximate length of 402.80 kilometers of USEAND PUBLIC BENEFIT that will benefit 8 departments and 58 municipalities and that will
become part of the Mobility Plan of the Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing -CIV
The road constitutes a sustainable platform for the social and economic infrastructure of the region, which contributes to the improvement of the quality of life of the communities of incidence.
Currently 14.5 kilometers are built in the Interconnection Section CA-01 Occident (Km. 38) RN5 (Km. 34), Santo Domingo Xenacoj, which will complement the existing 402.80 kilometers. The construction will interconnect the departments of Guatemala, El Progreso, Jalapa, Jutiapa, Escuintla, Santo Rosa, Sacatepéquez and Chimaltenango and it is a road infrastructure that will optimize the transit of passenger and cargo transportation, as well as mobility to more than 3 million Of users of the route that in turn will help to free the vehicular traffic that enters and leaves the capital to different points of the country.
For its construction, more than 800 jobs have been generated, giving priority to local labor, who are trained in Industrial Safety, as well as in the conservation and protection of natural resources, while complying with the norms established in the Environmental Impact Study, endorsed by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources – MARN, in an initiative of a road with ecological projection.
